Three Tips to Stay Healthy and Energized during Ramadan
2021 Apr 14th
The holy month of Ramadan for our Muslim community is here. Ramadan is a month of fasting that allows for spiritual reflection, self-improvement and deeper devotion. The period is observed by fasting (not eating food or drinking water) between sunrise and sunset.
If you are fasting this Ramadan, here are three tips to stay healthy and energized throughout your day:
- Do not skip your morning meal. For your pre-fast meal, eat food that will give you long-term energy to take you through your day. Whole grains with healthy fats and proteins like millet, as well as fruits and vegetables are a great option.
- Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Ensuring you are maintaining a good water intake will prevent headaches, migraines and tiredness. Keep a bottle by your bed to sip on throughout the night and try to stay away from caffeinated dehydrating drinks.
- Be conscious of what you eat during iftar. While you may be tempted to overeat during iftar, ensure that your meal contains healthy carbohydrates, lean protein like beans and nuts, as well as vegetables, all in healthy portions.
